Bajara Rotla — also known as Bajri Rotla, Bajra Roti, or Pearl Millet Roti — is one of India’s oldest and most nourishing flatbreads. Thick, hearty, and made from just pearl millet flour and water, this ancient grain bread has been the staple food of Gujarat and Rajasthan for thousands of years. At Sukhadi Kitchen, we handmake our Bajara Rotla in London using the traditional method — hand-patted, not rolled — giving it the authentic thick, rustic texture of a genuine bajri rotla.
Unlike the thinner Bajara Thepla (which blends bajra with wheat and spices), Bajara Rotla is made with pure pearl millet flour only — giving it a stronger, earthier flavour and a denser, more satisfying texture. It is the bread of the Gujarati countryside — robust, filling, and deeply comforting.

The Sukhadi Kitchen Difference
Hand-patted, not rolled. Authentic bajra rotla is shaped by hand, not with a rolling pin — the traditional method that gives it its characteristic rustic thickness and texture.
100% bajra flour. No wheat blended in — pure pearl millet, the way it has always been made.
Fresh to order. Made after you place your order, dispatched within 48 hours. No freezing, no preservatives.
Ancient grain, modern kitchen. Pearl millet has nourished communities in India for over 5,000 years.
What to Eat With Bajara Rotla
- Garlic chutney (lasan chutney) — the classic Gujarati pairing with bajra rotla
- Brinjal bharta (smoky aubergine) — a traditional combination
- Tuvar dal — spiced yellow lentils
- Onion and green chilli — the simplest, most traditional accompaniment
- Ghee — a knob of ghee on a hot rotla is pure comfort
Serving tip: Best eaten fresh and hot, straight off the tawa. Reheat on a dry pan for 1–2 minutes each side.
